A good weekend...

I made a sour dough loaf on Saturday.  I used a method of turning and flipping the dough in the bowl which I think resulted in a holier loaf.

Baking in the dutch oven...

~
It was a little stodgy but we ate it all over the weekend and it made delicious toast.
~
Yum!
~
Brianna has been home this weekend so I made pikelets...
~
~
She crocheted some amigurumi critters...
~
Tyrannosaurus...
~
Stegasaurus...
~
...and Triceratops...
~
My favourite - a pug! How cute is he?
~
~
There was speculation that the pug looked like a black faced suffolk sheep from this angle...I still say pug!

I made Butter Chicken last night and it was very good. Julie's recipes are easy to follow and so far totally delicious!

I made the kachumber salad...

Pikelets ...

I think pikelets are a great snack or breakfast.  I've always struggled to form nice round ones in the skillet...

Like these...
~
I washed out an empty tomato sauce bottle, made the batter then filled the bottle.
~
I used Beth's very easy recipe here ...

~
Nice round blobs...
~
Success!

~
I like maple syrup on mine but lemon and sugar bring back childhood memories and I also like them cold, spread with butter and apricot jam...
Oh, behave!

Yorke Peninsular...

Tuesday 16/2

We headed off in Ruby and planned to stay somewhere in Innes National Park.  It was about a 3 hour drive.
~
We looked at several camp sites but settled on Brown's Beach.  We had visitors hop through just after we arrived...
~
It took us about an hour to set up Ruby...
~
~
A nice cosy little camp...
~
Dinner on the first night was mini chicken rolls, salad and rice-a-riso...
~
Wednesday 17/2
A great camp brekky...
~
Pork ribs for lunch...
~
A little pinot gris...
~
First time we'd done ribs and they were a bit overdone but tasty.  Will perfect.
~
I made fresh fruit salad which we had with caramelised fig yoghurt...
~
A camp tip - I keep a thermos filled with hot water.  Great for a quick cuppa or for dish washing without having to boil the billy and waste gas.
~
Gus rigged up a camp shower...
~
We took a stroll to Brown's Beach...
~
It was a steep walk down...
~
~
Look at that steep climb back up!
~
~
~
Some loon thought a swim would be a good idea! Brrrr!
~
~
The beach sand is made up of teeny tiny shells, so cool to sift through...
~
~
Steak for dinner and an early night.  We are still tired from the train trip...
Thursday 18/2
I made a fritatta of sorts - egg, bacon, tomato, cheese...
~
After a drizzly morning, we waited for the tent to dry out then we packed up and headed for Marion Bay for a pub lunch.
~
On the way, we stopped off to see the wreck of the Ethel, a shipwreck...
~
The coastline is stunning!
~
We then headed for Yorketown to our friend who is a Ford dealer.  We stayed with he and his lovely wife for two nights...
~
His friendly neighbour came knocking on the door with these freshly cooked blue swimmer crabs. We just set down some newspaper and bowls and we went to, cracking them open and eating them. So goood!  They are a bit tougher to crack than crayfish.
~

Friday 19/2
Michael had planned to take us out in his boat fishing and crabbing but the wind was coming up so we canned that idea.  I didnt fancy bobbing around in a boat on choppy seas...
~
Instead, he gave us a thorough tour of the peninsular, taking us to most of the towns...

~
We had a lovely dinner on our last night then it was another quite early night as we were all heading back to Adelaide early Saturday morning.
~
Yorkes is somewhere where we will head to again, a very pretty coastal part of of South Australia.
