Lovely long weekend...

Well, we've had a great weekend.  Kirby and her boyfriend came down from Adelaide (unfortunately, Bri had to work shifts) so we did nothing but eat good food and drink good wine!
~
First up, Friday night I made Chicken Biryani...
(My pic from earlier this year)

Saturday, as soon ad Gus finished work, we headed for McIntyre's Beach, our favourite local spot.
~
It was meant to be 30C but I doubt it got above 24C, the wind was quite gusty...but it was pleasant.
~
Simple salads - tangy tomato noodles and a tossed salad...
~
We had marinated chicken steaks, thin scotch fillet steaks and sausages...

Home through the dunes...

Dinner Saturday night was lamb chops on the barbecue with the left over salads.
~
Earlier in the day, I made mini baked lemon cheesecakes which we had with raspberries and cream...

Sunday, it was foggy when I got up but it soon burned away...
~
We headed to Coonawarra to Fodder (another favourite haunt) where we had a delicious lunch...
~
Lovely light, wood fired pizzas...
~
Middle Eastern orange and almond cake...my kind of dessert!
~
Kirby and Nate at Rymill wines...
~
We bought some lollies for Brianna at The Lolly Shop...
~
Home again, we had a chill out while Gus prepared the spit roaster to do a chicken for dinner.  Goodness, we love our food!
~
~
I was smart and made Winter Fruit salad with lemon poppyseed dressing - so yummy...
~
...and creamy pasta salad in the morning so I didn't have to do anything when we got home but have a wine! :)
~
The roast chicken!
~
We had leftover cheesecakes, this time with fresh mango and cream...scrummy!
After dinner, we watched Raiders of the Lost Ark, until my snoring sent me to bed!
~
Best breakfast - egg and bacon sanga (sandwich) with gooey egg!
~
Kirby and Nate are safely home in Adelaide and this how I feel right now....tired out!

Delicious Long Weekend...

A classic standard one with onion, capsicum, mushroom, anchovies, bacon, salami and tomato and cheese...

...and a barbecue meat lovers. All very good!
~
Queen Elizabeth gave us a holiday Monday for her birthday! Thanks, Liz!
~

We had a busy weekend planned, staying in Penola and hosting friends from Adelaide and Mount Gambier...

I took food supplies for our dinner on Sunday night - bread flour to make a hot loaf...

~

...and ingredients to make Babymac's Caramel Apple Crumble.

~

Our friends from Adelaide arrived late Saturday afternoon so we had some nice wine and nibbles while waiting to go to dinner. They own and run The Lane Vineyard at Hahndorf - cracking wines!

~

Dinner was a special night at Pipers of Penola celebrating 40 vintages by the Bowen family. A delicious 5 course degustation menu....

Sunday morning our friends departed back to Adelaide then in the afternoon our friends arrived from Mount Gambier - more nibbles and wine!

We dined in at our Bed and Breakfast accomodation which had a full kitchen...

The bread turned out really well!

I made creamy pasta salad...

...and a simple tossed salad. We also had jacket potatoes to go with our barbecue steaks!

Tired and weary, we got home at midday on Monday. Gus kindly made dinner - these delicious meatballs, served with a runny but scrummy tomato sauce, more like a soup. Yum!

I've had this book since 1990 (I'd written in the front as I always do)!

What did you get up to on the weekend?
