Tonsillectomy for Bri...

After having glandula fever when she was 16, Bri has suffered from swollen glands and gets run down very easily.  She’s never really been plagued with tonsillitis as such but her tonsils are huge.  That’s her tonsils either side of her uvula.  See that white thing in the left tonsil?  That is a tonsil stone.  Gross!

So Monday, she had a tonsillectomy.   Here she gowned up, ready to go to theatre...

She was gone about 2 hours, although the surgery only takes about 15 minutes, the rest is spent in recovery.  I went and had a coffee and sat and read a magazine for the first hour.  Then I went up to her room where she’d come back to.  It was a little spartan but at least it was a  private room.

Here she is! I was surprised that she could talk quite normally...

She had an overnight stay then I picked her up at 0930 Tuesday morning.

~

Here’s an after pic - see those white bits down the back? That’s where her tonsils used to be.  The white stuff is called slough (pronounced sluff) and is part of the  healing process.

Today is Day 4 post op and she’s finding it pretty sore and can expect to get worse on days 5-7.  She has lots of pain and anti-inflammatory meds to take.  Hopefully, there will be no complications.

She has been eating jelly and ice cream, icypoles, mac n cheese and crumpets and sleeps fairly well at night.

Happy Birthday, Bri!

Brianna had a small party for her 24th birthday on Sunday.  I did all the baking then took it to Adelaide on Saturday.  I assembled the cupcakes on Sunday morning.  Kirby did some nice cheese and nibbles platters also.  It was a lovely afternoon, meeting some of her nursing friends.  

Happy birthday, Brianna - we love you and are very proud of the great nurse you are and the beautiful woman you are! Love you! 😘

Bri had her birthdy on the weekend and unfortunately we couldn't be there but she celebrated in style out on the town. (L-R Tori, Maddy, Bri and Chloe)...

On Saturday, we went out to Ikea and chose bedroom furniture for both girls bedrooms at our house.  Both girls have been gone longer than 4 years and their bedrooms are very teenagey.  We also have friends come to stay from interstate so it will be nice to offer a queen sized bed, decked out in nice manchester.  We then went to Marion shopping centre to get said manchester.

 Back home, Bri and I got ready to go see Dirty Dancing in the city. I happened upon the tickets when friends offered them as they couldnt use them as they had an unscheduled trip to Bali instead. 

Kirby, Gus and Ai saw DD in London back in 2010 and Bri has been itching to see it so it was her birthday treat. Kirby and Gus had a quiet night in.

Pre-show, we had a Pachanga frozen slushy cocktail - watermelon flavoured!

Everthing was going well until this giant sat in front of me! Really? You are kidding me!

He did scooch down a bit when the show started but I still had to peer around him! Happens to me every time!   Does it happen to you too?

We loved the show, quite funny in places with great dancing and singing.

~

Last stop, the InterContinental for a espresso martini after the show!

We finished the weekend at Shanghai Teahouse for Sunday lunch with the girls before we headed back home. Yummy dumplings, satay skewers, beef buns and chicken and cashew stirfry, so good.

Four hours later, we were home at 6pm.

~

Now Gus has the unenviable task of puttng all those flat pack Ikea products together.  There are only two three drawer chest of drawers and four bedside tables!!!  Only!

Busy times...

Sorry, I've been absent for a while. We had Bri home for a week (so good) then we went to Sydney for 4 days last weekend...

The perfect boiled egg. Everyone likes them cooked differently and it's a personal thing but I like mine with a cooked solid white but the yolk runny and creamy. On MasterChef, Marco Pierre White suggests boiling water in a saucepan then carefully putting the eggs in. My eggs are just right at 5 minutes 45 seconds...

Bri and I enjoyed Thai when we had to zip to Mt Gambier... $11.90 lunch specials!

Aren't these little guys cute? Bri has self-taught herself to crochet (YouTube) so she's been churning lots of these out.

I enjoyed cooking for her. She likes Devilled Sausages...

...and corned beef with veggies and broc-cauliflower cheese bake...

While Bri crocheted, I knitted - another nice dish cloth (or wash cloth).

I am awaiting the delivery of my kit to knit this Commemorative Throw - Shades of our Forces. The colours represent the Army, Airforce and Navy. I chose to knit it in wool rather than acrylic.

Kits are available for a limited time at the Better Homes and Garden shop site.

Now this - this is my sister Leanne's completed throw rug. Isn't it beautiful? I hope mine turns out as nice!

Like mother, like daughter...

One morning this past week, I enjoyed scrambled eggs and toast (not ON toast - that would never do!)...

Brianna is home for a full week of annual leave (Yay!) and her first request was tacos so I made chicken corn and bean tacos and she smothered them in tomato sauce! We poked fun at her for doing this then I remembered my picture of scrambled eggs, drizzled with tomato sauce...

Are you a sauce fan? I like it on eggs, sausages and cold roast lamb...
