Autumn has arrived...

The days are definitely cooler now. My standard roses are giving a final flush.

We did a quick trip to Adelaide on Tuesday so Gus could deliver 3 vehicles then back Wednesday. I made choc chip cookie bars for my girls.
I've been given some more tomatoes from my bro-in-law so I made a little tomato and zucchini bake for dinner last night. Then I chopped up all the rest and zip lock bagged them (sucking out the air with a drink straw). These will go into the freezer to make future bakes or be thrown into soup or a stew. I love the taste of fresh grown tomatoes - hot house grown ones just don't compare.

The picture of the splayed out chicken was from dinner Sunday night - Thai marinated a la Gus! It was delicious!

As I said, it's getting cooler now and it's definitely time for Daylight Saving to finish. I love snugging in when the weather gets cold. We had some really heavy rain last night, so loud on our roof that I couldn't hear the TV! Poor Queensland is copping a beating, first with cyclone Debbie and now torrential rain which has historically closed schools across the SE of state due to safety concerns. Unheard of!

I hope the weather is better for the weekend as we are off to the footy!

Comfort food...

Honey mustard baked chicken ..
~.
Chicken cacciatore...
~
Smoked salmon pie..
~
I'm after an enamel baking dish like this one...to bake bread in.
~
I did find this one at s garage ssle on Saturday morning (I was out and about at 8am after seeing it on Facebook)...
but it's quite small. I'd like a bigger one.  I used to have one years aho but it got tossed out when I bought a new heavier roaster.

~
Dauphinoise potatoes from River Cottage...
~
Such a naughty dish! There's a 300ml carton of cream in there!
~
Tomato relish on homemade bread! Bliss!
~
We had a slow day yesterday. Gus is nursing a sore neck and shoulder so he spent the morning researching a trip we have coming up to NSW.  He did mow the lawns and spray weeds in the afternoon but that wasn't too bad for him.
~
Thai green curry with asparagus...no asparagus for me, though!
~
Strawberry pie...
~
I think some plain fare is needed this week. I think the cooler weather made me cook all that comfort food.

Autumn at it's finest...

The weather has been much better here. It was still and cold on Saturday but Sunday was bright and sunny.
Bri requested muffins so I whipped up a batch of Poh's basic muffin mix then added dried blueberries and choc chips.
They were really good. The addition of sour cream made them nice and moist.
Saturday we visited my sister and brother-in-law at their little permanent van at Beachport. On the way home, we bought some chips, potato cakes and chicken medallions...naughty!
Gus was in charge of dinner. A salad of rocket leaves, avocado, pear and parmesan drizzled with balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
Baked potatoes...
Pork chops with a strawberry balsamic sauce - it didn't plate up very nicely but sure tasted great.
Sunday morning, I snapped this pic at about 7am but it turned out so dark...
I edited this pic because it was so dark on my camera.  Have you ever played around with settings in your phone camera?

I stayed this dish cloth on Saturday but it didn't progress any further...
Sun streaming in the house is so nice after the bleak weather we have had.
I made bread sticks to have as nibbles with our lunch. We decided to have a paddock fire as the weather was so nice...
Sprinkled with olive gomasio...
~
I had some olive paste so I made a simple olive pizza...
I just cut it into thin wedges and served it with tatziki dip - yum!
Don't they look great?
~
Bri invited my niece and family out for a catch up...this is dear little Tex...such a smiley boy!
We enjoyed some Californian wine...excellent...
How's the serenity?
My sister and bro-in-law also called in and also Gus' mate...
~
Brax entertained us with his dancing and antics...I think he ate 20 toasted marshmallows!
The fire was only small but it really threw out some heat...
This poor tree is dead - plenty of firewood in this one. We just need to get it felled for us...
Everyone left once it got dark but we stayed on, cooked some lamb chops on the spit for dinner then retired inside at 9.30pm...it was a big day!
Autumn is a lovely time of year if the sun shines!

April showers and dead bananas...

I had to zip out to get fresh bread this morning and when I got back, the sun was shining but there were dark clouds looming...

This is the same picture with a filter applied...

A good rain is on the way...

~

beautiful Bonica rose...

~

Lots of dead bananas in the fruit bowl so I have made banana choc chip muffins for our staff at work. They'll love these for smoko!

What's the weather doing in your neck of the wood?
