Nuriootpa and Tanunda, Day 2 ...

We awoke to a beautiful, clear sunny day- perfect for exploring the valley...
~
First up, coffee!
~
Mushrooms, scrambled eggs and honey cured bacon...
~
Then we were off to see a few wineries...  first stop - Rockford Wines.  Our favourite rosè wine Alicante Bouchée comes from here!
~
They had some interesting wire and metal sculpures including this barbed wire sphere hanging in a tree...
~
Next stop, St Hallet Wines ... Lovely grounds here for outdoor dining...
~
~
On to Grant Burge Wines where we decided to have a light lunch...
~
We sat outside and admired the view, soaking up that sunshine!
~
We ordered 4 plates - a small quiche, a cheese platter for one, a tasting plate for one and a turkish bread with tomato, salad and cheese filling - all of which we shared...
~
Perfect!
~
Our last tasting was at Whistler Wines (on Brianna's recommendation)...
~
We bought a dozen of mixed wines because they were all good!
~
We did not try their Ring O Fire bier sticks!

~
Finally, we went to Maggie Beers Farm shop. We didn't go too overboard but we did buy some of her icecream...
~
...and I bought pickled figs and mustard preserved apricots and Bri bought the tomato sauce.
~
Then it was home to chill out for a few hours then Gus and Brianna started dinner...
~
Potatoes braised with herbs, bacon, butter and verjuice...
~
Pan fried prawns and scallops with lime & caper butter and a verjuice and butter sauce...smashing!
~
rolled loin of lamb, marinated in vino cotto and rosemary, verjuice heirloom carrots, braised potatoes with parsley and bacon and pan fried green beans...
Absolutely delicious!
~
This has been lots of fun, seeing who can cook the best but we all agreed it was a draw because both meals were fantastic!
~
Time for a bit of TV then lights out

Joolz & Kirby cook dinner...

Of course, we had to do a Maggie dish...
~
We chose her chicken with figs, honey and vinegar...

Accompanied by braised kipfler potatoes...
~
I portioned a free range chicken then added it to the baking dish with all the other goodies - red onion, figs, lemon thyme, rosemary, cinnamon, verjuice, vinegar, honey and chicken stock...
~
It looked great before it was cooked!
~
Just before serving, I drained off the pan juices and reduced them, to pour over the sticky chicken...
~
Yum!
~
Kirby made a salad...
~
~
Family dinner - the best kind!
~
Dessert was also a triumph!  Very easy mini baked cheesecakes...
~
The biscuit base is pressed into patty pans then the filling goes in (cream cheese, 1 egg, caster sugar, lemon juice and cream)...
~
Bake then cool then refrigerate until needed ...
~
And et voila! Very decadent and deceiving! I thought I could knock two of them off but one was plenty...
~
A wine for the cook!
~
Food coma for Brianna!
~
Today we will explore the region, checking out Maggie's Farm shop and some wineries. Then tonight it is Gus and Breeza's turn to cook dinner. Entree and main plus our cheesecakes again for dessert. Bring it!
~
