Camping gear bag...
We pack a lot of stuff in the back of our Defender and I hate it when things get marked and scratched, especially if we pack up in the wet and things are also dirty or muddy.
I recently bought four of these mats that interlock together. If it's been raining and you have a puddle at your doorstep, you put one (or more) of these babies down and you will have a dry entrance and won't track mud into your camper or caravan.
When we used these last weekend in our shower tent, they were brilliant for that too. Water just runs away underneath them, unlike the rubber foamy type mats that seem to trap the water underneath.
I needed something to store them in as I could see that using a black garbag each time would be costly and bad for the environment. I bought some medium weight denim fabric, for durability and just made a flat bag the same size as the garbag. I was going to put in a draw string but it just folds over at the top.
Here's the finished bag with the four mats inside, ready to throw back in Ruby. They won't rub against anything and if they're muddy, I can just give the bag a wash when we get back and we won't be wasting plastic bags. Win, win!
I'm pretty pleased with myself!

McIntyre Beach
Saturday 07/01/17
It was stinking hot on Saturday, with a top of 41C forecast. It was overcast and muggy. With a promise that a cool change would swing through later in the afternoon, we packed up Ruby and Pearl and headed for our favourite little beach camp spot at McIntyre Beach.
We nose Pearl into position using the front hitch, so much easier than backing her into position.
It was cooler here than back home but soooo much cooler down at the waters edge. Our Southern Ocean is very chilly! 🌊
Time for some refreshments. I have discovered Smirnoff Pure (vodka, lime and soda). Its a lovely drink, not too sweet like most mixed drinks, on a hot day.
The sky was so beautiful, cloud formation changing constantly...

We ate barbecued chicken pieces with salad and finished off the evening with a mini Magnum icecream!
We had a few spits of rain later in the night so we packed up and called it a night. Next morning, we left nothing but tyre tracks...
We are so lucky to have this wonderful coastline accessable to us.

Wintery week...
It's been cold and very wet here. We've had record breaking rains and its still raining!

I took this photo out my glass sliding door last Tuesday after a big heavy shower of rain then the sun came out and the droplets were glistening on the branches. I did put a filter on it but its rather nice I think!

This was on Thursday and it did warm up to 12C!

It's never too cold for ice cream (with strawberries soaked in strawberry schnapps...

The financial year ended on June 30th and we've been flat out finishing up everything in the office. My least favourite time of the year!

Last night I made this Creamy Chicken Penne last night - a ripper of a dish!

In other news, we head to NSW to pick up our new camper trailer soon.
I'm starting a new blog called
Camping Adventures in Ruby & Pearl to log our trips and camp cooking etc.
Ruby is our red Land Rover Defender and Pearl is our new camper - I can't wait to take a photo of her on Wednesday! Can you tell I'm super excited! Eeep!
