McIntyre Beach

Saturday 07/01/17

It was stinking hot on Saturday, with a top of 41C forecast. It was overcast and muggy. With a promise that a cool change would swing through later in the afternoon, we packed up Ruby and Pearl and headed for our favourite little beach camp spot at McIntyre Beach.

We nose Pearl into position using the front hitch, so much easier than backing her into position.

It was cooler here than back home but soooo much cooler down at the waters edge. Our Southern Ocean is very chilly! 🌊

Time for some refreshments. I have discovered Smirnoff Pure (vodka, lime and soda). Its a lovely drink, not too sweet like most mixed drinks, on a hot day.

The sky was so beautiful, cloud formation changing constantly...

Cheers!

Tangled nature...

Bri and Gus pitched her tent ⛺️...

Not sure what happened to this butterfly 🦋...

Bri was sitting cooling her toes when the sea came in...

That cooled her off! ☺

The sun in the clouds...

A stunnng sunset - I just couldn't capture the colours...

We ate barbecued chicken pieces with salad and finished off the evening with a mini Magnum icecream!

We had a few spits of rain later in the night so we packed up and called it a night. Next morning, we left nothing but tyre tracks...

We are so lucky to have this wonderful coastline accessable to us.

Southend ...

It got to about 35C here yesterday so after work, we hit the beach (20 minutes away)...

The kids went down earlier in the afternoon, in Ruby, then we arrived at 6pm.

We had a lovely barbecue dinner with salads I made at lunch time and sausages and lamb shasliks...

We packed up on dark and got home around 10pm. It was still really warm outside.

Today we have an expected top of 41C with extreme fire 🔥 weather warnings. 😖
Kirby and Nate are attending a garden wedding in town - I really feel sorry for the bride and groom. Gus wants to take Pearl down to a coastal beach spot and camp tonight but I'm not that keen. We'll see.

39 Degrees Celcius then to the beach....

After a very hot day at work, we packed the car with a bbq tea and headed for the beach at Southend. This is B15 and her friend M14 frollicking in the waves.
Clowning around in the shallows. Very cooling.
K18 took this photo, love the water flick!
A pair of bathing beauties sunning themselves in the dunes.
Time for a bit of high-flying dune leaping! Who has the energy??
A quiet talk between friends..or giggling more like!
We had lamb schazliks, sausages, red noodle salad, satay rice and tossed green salad. Posh for the beach I know, but it was very yummy.
This is our BabyQ Weber barbecue. It is ideal for the beach and the lid keeps the sand out if the winds blowing and it keeps the meat hot after you turn it off. Fabbo!
As the sun started to sink lower, I started taking photos of the sunset. It started out a bright yellow and at this stage it was still very hot. Not real sure of the time but it must have been about 8pm.
Still talking and giggling...
...the waves kept rolling in, the sun getting a deeper yellow...
...almost down over the point at Southend....
...ooops, this one should have been above, either that or the sun has risen higher again...
...the colours were amazing....
...typical women, still talking...
...the clouds put on a wonderful display....
...this was the end result....
Just beautiful...
...they stopped talking just long enough to pose....
the heat had finally gone out of the day. We stayed until way after dark, just watching the sea then made our way home through the sand dunes via Bevelaqua's Track. We are so lucky that the beach is only 20 minutes from our house.
Hope all you other South Aussies stayed cool today.
