I had the chance to catch up with some friends for lunch on Monday. One had driven all the way from Elimba in Queensland which took her 2.5 days. She had some relatives visiting here from the UK. The other is a local lass that I used to work with back in the late 80's. We enjoyed pumpkin, spinach and macadamia salad, chicken caesar salad and I had the open lamb souvlaki. All delicious!
Gus and I were given this box of beautiful South Aussie chocolates at Christmas so we are rationing them out, one each per night...
I made a smoothie for breakfast yesterday morning. Milk, banana, medjool dates, raw cacao, greek yoghurt and a dash of vanilla extract.
The dates really sweeten it up, it was delicious!
I cut my Christmas cake and am very pleased with it. It's dark and moist with all the fruit. It will keep all year as I make my way through it.
It fits perfectly in the cake tin that Kirby and Bri gave me. It came all the way from London!
I made http://www.baby-mac.com/2013/07/just-call-me-bev-chicken-cacciatore/ She bakes potatoes in the oven then wilts baby spinach in with them towards the end.
I love this version of cacciatore, its more Meditteranean with lemon, olive and rosemary flavours rather than a tomato based one. This was the leftovers, plated up for Gus's lunch.
Today, we have The Bugman spraying for spiders. I've had a few encounters with large huntsmen spiders lately as well as really small ones that have taken over our pergola area. You can't walk out there without copping a web in your face - this freaks me out so ZAP! I just hope I dont find too many dead carcasses! I am a bit angry - my windows are all streaky from the chemical and I had just got them cleaned before Christmas. I'll have to give them a wipeover, grrr!
It's been a warm one here today, about 30C and previous days have been in the mid to high 20's. There is a big storm due to blow through tomorrow morning which will bring a lot of rain - here we go again! I hope the state doesn't lose power like last time!
That fruit salad is going to be my dinner tonight. Gus has headed to Adelaide so I don't need to cook tonight...yay!
What's been happening in your part of the world?
Cheers - Joolz xx
Our temps are similar at the moment, high 70s F. Crazy. This morning the humidity was 95%, but thankfully it has dried out some. The windows are open and it is a lovely spring day in the midst of winter. :)
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love that cake tin! So cute.
We have rain, rain, rain today! We can't seem to string two days the same together! I prefer the rain to a hot day so that's a plus!
DeleteI loooove my tin too! ☺
Oh to have some rain. Yes please. It's been in the low to mid 30'sC here on the Fraser Coast Qld, with humidity in the 70-80 percentile range.
ReplyDeleteOur neighbours had their place bug sprayed. We now have cockroaches that we didn't have before. I think they all moved over here.
That cake tin is just lovely. You lucky lady.
