I have long been hinting that I'd like a couple of chooks - after all, we live on 2.5 acres on the outskirts of our town, so it feels quite rural.

Gus spied a flat-pack do-it-yourself chook run in the Stratco catalogue so seeing we are in Adelaide and driving a monster sized Land Rover Defender (same as Ruby only silver), we can pick it up today.

We won't be getting the chooks for a while because we are heading off for a couple of weeks soon and I have no idea if chooks are available at this time of year or not.

I'm excited!
Oooh how exciting.....I want to get some chooks but hubby keeps saying no lol....I'm not even sure if we are allowed to in our new council area or not. I may have to do some research! I can't wait to see your new chookie house and I hope you can get some very soon!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I would so love chooks. Recently a friendly neighbour inherited two so now at least I can go and visit theirs. Hope the flat pack goes together easily!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting!! We have 8 chooks of varying ages. When we got the first 3 we let them have the run of the yard (we are on 1.6 acres). I wouldn't recommend this. Especially as one used to love to sit on our cars and preen herself in the mirror. When she left a 'calling card' on the seat of my husbands ute and I had to take a pair of shorts to him when he got to work he finally gave into my suggesting (nagging) and decided to build a run to pen them in. They now have a huge run with our friut trees (which I rake the manure onto) inside with netting over the top (we have fruit bats in our area). We let them out late of an afternoon and it is lovelly to watch them peck around the grass and we can keep them our of the garden beds. Nothing better than sitting out the back with a glass of wine watching the 'girls' having a nice walkabout. Louise
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Fresh eggs. :)
ReplyDeleteyou'll love them.........
ReplyDeleteI am getting chooks soon too. We just have to finish building there home. I can't wait, they make great pets and provide the best eggs for breakfasts. Look forward to seeing which ones you get.
ReplyDeleteOh chookies hey? You will love them! My chook house is called Cackleberry House, with it's own little sign...
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing better than homegrown eggs you collect yourself.
