I made Pea & Ham soup this morning with a lovely smoked, meaty ham hock... just a few hours simmering away and lunch is made. I have a loaf of bread ready to go into the oven too.

The recipe is from Marie at A Year at Oak Cottage and you can find the recipe here. It is pictured just as I have added in the par cooked vegetables to the pea and ham mix. Once this cooked away for 45 minutes I removed the ham hock and cut all the meat from it - it was so meaty - Yum! I returned most of the meat to the pan and blitzed it with my Bamix then added in the final chunks of ham. Ready to go!

I have enjoyed the company of these two ladies (two Dames, no less) and some others this weekend - I ordered a copy of Cranford from Fishpond (for about $14 I think - delivered to my door!)...

If you haven't watched this 5 part series, do yourself a favour and see it soon - it's lovely and had me all teary at the very end...

Finally, this is the dish that Gus made last night - all in the one pot. The chicken was so moist and tender that we had trouble carving it without it falling apart everywhere. The rice was sweet and spicy and had caramelised around the edge of the pot like a paella. Delicious! - the recipe is from Taste.com here.

Enjoy your afternoon. I am going to snug down in the living room with my knitting and will find something to watch in my vast collection of DVD's...

I finished a dishcloth of my own, like your bright pink one. It turned out very nice.
ReplyDeleteThe chicken and rice looks yummy!
Queen Elizabeth II is very well liked over here, too. I remember watching her coronation in black in white on TV when I was a child.
ReplyDeleteCooking and knitting. I love it. :)
Rained here yesterday too. So I was off to see the beautiful Grandbaby.
ReplyDeleteShe melts my heart as only a newborn could.
