Bread rolls ...

I found the recipe for these rolls on a blog called Regina's Simple Life. Her blog disappeared back in October before I could write down the recipe (I just kept going back to the blog each time I made them - note to self: write it down!). Anyhoo, I happened to find a snipet of her blog in my reading list and it listed the ingredients and quantities but not the method. I have written the recipe how I think it should go and haven't had a flop yet. Regina returned to her blog in January but it has disappeared again which is a shame.
The rolls above don't have anything brushed on them but you could brush with milk and sprinkle seeds if you want but I find they just fall off and make a mess!

Yesterday, I made Banana Bread from this blog http://www.honeyandjam.com/2009/02/banana-bread.html

Anzac Biscuits - always a favourite - make sure your oven is nice and hot.

This is Lazy Lady Slice - so good and chocolatey and all mixed in a saucepan so there's not much wash up! Inner Pickle is a lovely blog ...

For dinner, Gus did a mini Rack of Lamb in the Weber, salad and Moroccan spiced potatoes, bread roll is by me (for these, I rolled 3 small balls of dough and plopped them in muffin tins - they pull apart quite nicely)

That was my Saturday. I also cleaned my car from top to bottom and seem to have hurt my right arm (its a long time since I have washed a car - the perks of driving a company car!). I woke up during the night and it was really aching (a real dull ache) so I took a couple of Panadol Osteo but it took a while to get back to sleep. I'd better take it easy today, eh? Oh, first I'm going out for coffee with some friends then delivering those goodies to someone who's not well.

Cheers for now, Joolz xx

Valentine's Day ...

I made my beloved some sugar cookies...

I whipped them up after work and had to stash them away in Bri's bedroom so he wouldn't find them! I think I had them baked and iced within an hour, even cooled them off in front of the fan!

When I arrived at work on Friday, these were waiting for me! Beautiful!

Oh, the food in Sydney!

Saturday, we had a very leisurely day.

A late lunch at The Sydney Cove Oyster Bar...

Wonderful oysters kilpatrick...

My Thai Prawn Salad - bean sprouts, Asian herbs, pineapple, chilli, nam jim dressing

Seared sea scallops - pork belly, salted caramel pear puree, shemiji mushrooms, Madeira jus

Baked creme caramel - house-made brownie, salted caramel sauce

~

In the afternoon we did a bit of shopping, mainly shoes and clothes for Gus. I love the makeup counters!

For dinner, Gus had booked a restaurant down at Jones Bay Wharf, Pyrmont - Flying Fish

We shared two entrees and one main so what you see on the plate is half of what you would get normally.

Prawn Dumpling - peking duck consommé, yuzu, summer leaves, prawn crackers

WA Marron - brown butter emulsion & tamarind emulsion, charred lettuce, aged balsamic - hard to photograph on the black plate - I would have preferred no flash!

The main - Blue Eye Trevalla - white curry, mango yoghurt, leaf mallum - the most delicious fish curry we have eaten!

Summer peaches and quandongs - nougat panna cotta, sunflower shoots, buckwheat ice cream

Petit fours to go with my long black. A magnificent finish to a beautiful meal!

Sunday - back to reality - flying off home!

Cheers - Joolz xx

Then it just got better...

Friday evening we attended the Land Rover Dealer of the Year celebration dinner...
The dinner was held at Quay Restaurant, again beautiful food by Peter Gilmore who greeted us and wished us a wonderful evening.
~
Salad of young garden vegetables, buffalo milk mozzarella, roasted almonds, lemon jam, herbs and flowers - pretty, eh?
Poached marron, rosehip, creme fraiche, French breakfast radishes, pomegranate, linaria flowers...
Fillet of grain fed beef, morel cream, braised mushrooms, roasted ancient grains...
Roasted blue eye, artichoke puree, baby leeks, ligurian olives, rocket, capers, fennell pollen...
Quay's seven texture valrhona chocolate cake ...
Jersey cream, salted caramel, prune, milk and sugar crystals ...

Now for the exciting part! Just before dessert was served they had the Dealer of the Year formalities... They announced the Metro DOTY then started talking about the Regional Dealer of the Year. They mentioned that they had attended the opening of the dealership's new showroom, then they mentioned ... lower SE of South Australia! Gus and I both shot a glance at each other - OMG they are talking about us!!!! They read out two very favourable customer service surveys then they announced
ANGUS MCDONALD FROM MAC LAND ROVER -
REGIONAL DEALER OF THE YEAR 2013
This is the Waterford crystal trophy that was presented to Angus.
My man with his award!
A very happy snap of us - my eye makeup was gone by then as I had a good blubber when he went up to receive the award. We were so shocked to win but in hindsight I know just how much Gus deserves this. He works long and hard to achieve the sales results, his integrity, honesty and love of the Land Rover product ensures customer satisfaction and without our team of staff (sales, admin, parts, service and detailing) to support us, it would not have been possible to win. We are about to clock up 25 years as owners of this business so its fantastic for Gus to earn this accolade.
Wow, wow, wow is all we can say!

Cheers - Joolz xx

Exciting Sydney!

We headed to Sydney last Thursday for a rather exciting weekend. Gus attended a conference on Friday while I joined other wives for a cooking demonstration with Peter Gilmore, chef at Quay Restaurant.

Not a bad view ...
~
To start ... Beetroot crumb and goats cheese tarts, tiny delicious morsels!

Quail wraps...

The absolutely best crab cake with lime aioli I have ever eaten!

Peter, about to segment a grapefruit...

Freezing the grapefruit with liquid nitrogen, when pulverised the flesh separates into tiny pearls of grapefruit flesh which stays frozen long enough to serve in the beautiful dish below.

Sashimi of Harvey Bay sea scallops, grapefruit, bergamot jam, green mango, almonds, elder flowers

Congee of Northern Australian mud crab, fresh palm heart, egg yolk emulsion.

N

He was very charming and happy to answer our questions.

Gently braised quail, morel cream, brioche porridge, hazelnut floss. Seriously delicious despite looking rather strange.

~

Tiny lemon curd tarts for dessert...

It was a great couple of hours and lots of fun!
