Remembrance Day...

Driving through our town, it’s hard not to notice our Cross of Sacrifice in our parklands and the tiny crosses that have been laid for local service men and women who served in both World Wars and others.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.....

To all service men and women, posted overseas and here - thank you for service.

A new book, a curry and homemade yoghurt...

This lovely book arrived yesterday.  I am excited to try some of the yummy bread recipes in there!

I made a nice chicken curry for dinner, last night.

I also did a tomato/cucumber chutney (raw) and a cucumber raita.  These team really well with it.

Stay home fakeaway! As good as any takeaway curry!

I thought I’d give Outback Tania’s homemade Greek yoghurt.  I followed her tutorial ...

...that’s the yoghurt mixed up (I did use my Bamix to really mix well)...then into the EasiYo yoghurt maker...

...and voila! This morning I have a kilo of Greek Yoghurt!  I refrigerated for a few hours before tasting.  It’s quite firm but next time I might use just a smidge less water for a thicker outcome.  Delicious drizzled with lavender honey!
This is the most successful I’ve been with the EasiYo - I have tried a few sachets but always have had runny yoghurt.  If you have a kit, have a go at this method.

Curried, boiled egg...

I love it on toast or on crisp breads...

I’ve become a sucker for succulents!  I have planted out two more...

This one has babies stuck in there which I can transplant later when they’re bigger...

Thursday night sunset over the Canunda flats...

We’ve walked 4/5 work days this week.  We will increase our walk time by 10 minutes to 40 minutes this coming week.  No excuses, lets get moving!

Share the Dignity handbags...

This is the third year that I’ve made up two bags for women in crisis...

A gift of everyday items that they don’t have, maybe because they fled their homes in the night, unable to take even a brush or toothbrush with them.  Maybe she’s been living rough on the streets, unable to buy general toiletries and fem hygiene products that we take for granted.  Imagine having to choose between food or pads because you just got your period and only have $5 in your pocket.

The idea is to collect bits and pieces during the year then put it together in a handbag, in either good, used condition or brand new, for delivery to a drop off point.  This year I’ve included a small bottle of perfume from Zara, a cute little hot water bottle and a handmade Christmas decoration.  All other items are every day things we women all use and I bought most on special.

As you can see, this bag is chockers with those goodies...

These bags are available to buy from Share the Dignity...this is the Jane tote....

...and here is the Paula bag, with shoulder strap and also has another longer strap inside.

I’ll be taking these to a shop in Mount Gambier that is the collection point...

Do you have a handbag, still in good condition, lurking in your wardrobe?   Fill it with a few goodies to help one of our sisters feel a bit more dignified this Christmas.

Or visit the website and buy a few boxes of tampons which will be sent to StheD from Cottons.  These are distributed at womens shelters.

Around the house...

My roses are blooming!

I llove ve this rose but don’t know its name...

Quick chicken tacos for dinner Friday night.  The recipe is from
We’ve had a painter in to get rid of that navy blue corner wall...it used to be mostly hidden by my tall corner unit but we got rid of that...

Ta dah! Much better!

Wow!  I had a very good night on my cpap machine! I barely moved all night and woke to find I’d had 7+ hours solid sleep!

Friday and Saturday, our local country show was on and we take vehicles to display.  This was when they were just setting up and I had to ferry then backwards and forwards to get cars.

The show jumping and horses in action arena...

Dinner was tangy tomato pasta salad and a tossed salad of lettuce, cucumber, tomato, mango and olives...

...a baked potato and very nice fillet mignon that I got in Mt G.

-

We sat by the fire and yacked...

This morning I got to it and repotted this piggy pot with a few more succulents.

I had stuck a few off cuts in a pot outside so was pleased to see this little baby with roots.  In it went.

-

Finally, two poached eggs for breakfast, just how I like them!

More pottering happening here, in between cups of tea and iPad sessions.

Homemade cough syrup...

I looked up a recipe for homemade cough syrup on YouTube and this one sounded pretty good.  Because it contains alcohol, I would only use this in the evening, on going to bed.

1/2 cup bourbon whiskey
1/2 cup raw honey
1 tblspn brown sugar
1 lemon, juice of
1 2cm piece ginger, grated
2 drops pure peppermint essential oil
(the recipe wanted 4 hard candy peppermint lollies, crushed,  but I couldn’t get any so the peppermint and brown sugar are the substitute)

Put all in a small saucepan and gently heat - do not bring to the boil as this will spoil the quality of the raw honey
(not that the bourbon won’t!)...

Strain mixture through a fine seive and bottle it.  Take 1-2 tablespoons to relieve a cough at bedtime. 😴

It tastes rather good! 😉

Walkies!

Gus and I have started walking in the morning.  I get up at 6am and do a few jobs then he is up at 6.15am and does floor exercises for his back.  We are out the door at 0600 and have started of slowly with a 30 minute walk.  This coming week, we hope to increase it a little bit more.

Tuesday, 31st Oct.  I didn’t use the tracker the first morning....man, was it cold! My hands and ears were freezing!

Wednesday 1st Nov...a rainy morning but we grabbed our brollies and headed out.  It wasn’t too bad. We did 2.75km in 30 minutes.  The walk picture was blurry so here’s my weight revealed instead! Ugh!

Thursday 2nd Nov...another gloomy morning. This time 3.06km in half an hour.

Friday 3rd Nov - wet overnight but not raining as we walked.  Must be getting a bit faster 3.30kms in 30 minutes.

I was going to do screen shots of each walking route but it shows where I live so thought best not to do that.
This coming week, I hope we walk futher in and around town so I can snoop in peoples gardens and see what’s growing.  Country roads mean you have to dodge traffic and scoot off the bitumen when someones coming.  In town there are bitumen walking paths - much better!
