...and another thing...

Today I'm tackling the dreaded utensil drawer or as I call it - the second drawer down - the drawer under the cutlery drawer.
~
Look at this conglomeration!  A lit of it is used daily but there is some crap in there too!
~
Oh, my Lord! How can it be this grotty?
~
How did a Smartie get in there??
~
I scrubbedit with Miracle Spray then used a bit of Jif to lift some stains.  I was going to use this clear plastic tub but it takes up too much room...
~
Do you have favourite utensils? This is a small spatula thst I use almost daily. I keep looking for another but I haven't found one yet!
~
My crinkle cutter for carrots, cucumber and making crinkle cut oven baked chips.
~
Do you own a jar key? Never have trouble opening tight jars again!
~
Inserted under the lid rim, it releases the vacuum and the jar then opens easily. Game changer!
~
Here's the drawer now. It still looks a bit untidy but everything is visible and there are no nasties in therethat can hurt me when I dive in.  There are a few other things that are in the dishwasher still to go in.
Another #onething done and I did it in about 40 minutes.
~
With a few minutes to spare, I zipped over my kitchen sink with MS and some Gumption.
~
My bathroom cabinets are next up although they are in pretty good nick!
Have a nice day!

That one thing...

...you know...that blown light bulb, the squeaky door, the utensil drawer, the grotty washing machine, the bathroom cupboard/cabinet, the spare room (oh, horrors!). These are all that #onething that really don't take a lot of time to fix, it's just that we never get around to it like we should!
~
Blogger Babymac, Beth McDonald, tackles these #onething's every week.  If you only get #onething done each week, that's okay but if you do more, hooray!
~
Here's the link to her latest #one thing and if you go to her Search bar on the right and type in #onething, it will bring up all of her posts. Some might be of interest and get that spark going!
~
~
I started my #onething yesterday when Beth was talking about tax time and how she hates it.  Me too! I plan to do my #onething in only one hour, hopefully each day, between 8.30 and 9.30am. After that I need to get in the shower and off to work.
~
So I got out our files and organised them, making sure all copies of accounts and bank records were there as needed.  I discovered many bank statements missing so I got online and downloaded and printed them off.  I am now 9 months up to date so the task won't be so big after June 30th.
~
This, I am embarrassed to say, it my washing machine.  How can it get so grotty so quick, as I know I have cleaned it since Christmas!  Disgusting!
~

Out came the Miracle Spray - I sprayed the inner drum as this cuts through soap scum buildup...
~
If you haven't made up a batch of Miracle Spray then stop what you are doing and do it!  This stuff is fantastic.  It cuts grease like nobody's business and smell nice and is soft on your hands and it makes your rings sparkle too!

~

Then I set it for a hot wash and threw in a great big slosh 2 cups of cheap vinegar and let it go until it was nearly ready to drain...
~
This vinegar is about $2-3 a bottle...
~
Okay, so the Miracle Spray and vinegar have sloshed around in the hot water, now it's time to get into all the nooks and crannies with a toothbrush, scourer and sponge...
~
Horror!  This is what I dislodged from under that rim! Yikes!
~
Once I'd wiped all that scum crap away and had it looking nice, I dropped the lid and let it finish the wash with the inner bits getting a wash too then let it spin away the hot, dirty water and fill for a cold rinse.  I added another slosh of vinegar to this...
~
One hour later   ...   Et voila! Sparkling clean!
~
Ta dah!
~
Like brand new again...now I need to put this #onething in my diary for 3 months time...
Lather, rinse, repeat...
~
Tidy laundry and oh, so clean washing machine, gotta be happy with that!
~

My #onething for tomorrow is my utensil drawer...

Roses, roses, roses...

Two of my girlfriends and I went to rose nursery open day yesterday...
There were about 600 different roses, all grown in a dusty paddock in the middle of nowhere...
You could buy a bunch for $12 - we did this as we left...

~
This is Soul Sister - I first saw and fell in love with this rose on Babymac Beth McDonald's Instagram account...
I knew I had to have one!
~

I have ordered it and will pick it up in July when the bare root stock are ready. $18.70
~
Here are just a few of the gorgeous blooms...

~
We left the nursery at 2.30pm and made our way back to Millicent where we decided that we needed refreshment so we went to the pub and had a glass of wine.  More chatting then it was time to go home...
~
This was the huge bunch I bought for $12...
~

This morning I split them between two vases...
~
Stunning!
~
I found it unusual that the roses were growing in such lush condition.  Mine are nearing their end after the hot summer and are starting to lose their leaves. The ones at the nursery, and they're in the open air, look to have many months more before that will happen.  Maybe the secret is in the watering, pruning and fertilizing...of which mine may be lacking all three!
~
Anyway, I await my Soul Sister rose with great anticipation - I have to find a good spot for it!

Slow going...

I have started on the petit point but gee, it's slow going.  I went and bought magnifying glass to start with, and that allowed me to highlight the pattern that has so far been stitched. But that was slow going...
~

So I went to the "cheap shop" and spent $5.95 on a pair of magifying specs.  Game changer!  My hands are free and I can see the work in focus!  I am aware that I should only do this in short bursts so as not to strain my eyes.
~
Can you see the pile of cotton fluff? I've had to unpick some portions of the work as my auntie was 'one stitch out' in a few places.  This creates a problem where the work may run into where another stitch should be.  It took me over an hour to unpick one tiny bit as stitches were entwined.  I may be as old as Auntie Betty (90!) by the time I finish it!
~
I'm off to visit a Rose farm with a few girlfriends today. The weather looks promising for a nice ladies day out - apparently they have over 600 roses for viewing and you can buy as well.  There's food and wine and entertainment for kids...
