Sugar butter flower cookies ...

Kim from Serendipity Cafe posted a picture on facebook yesterday for the way to make these cute sugar cookies - I just had to give it a go! There wasn't a recipe so I just used my Cherry Shortbreads recipe which you can find here.
~
I made the dough but added extra plain flour to make it stiffer so the balls would roll nicely.
~
Fate would have it that I had a shaker of coloured sugars in my pantry (purchased long ago) so that's why I wanted to make the cookies so bad. Roll them into nice balls then swoosh around in the sugar until coated.

This picture is from Homestead Survival's facebook page (but I couldn't find it on their blog) and this is the next step. Take a pair of clean scissors and snip the ball in half (but not through to the bottom) then snip each half into three, carefully laying out the petals ...

... like this.

Don't they look cute?
~
Ten minutes later and you have sugar butter flower cookies!
~
My tip - I started by rolling a ball, dipping in sugar, cutting then setting the petals out.... It's quicker to roll 6 balls then go through the production line.
They are a beautifully crunchy biscuit, just right to have with a cup of tea.

Ah, that's better...

  2. That is such a clever idea, much easier than using a biscuit press. I'm not doing as much baking nowadays but I shall file this idea away to try out some day.
