Homemade cough syrup...

I looked up a recipe for homemade cough syrup on YouTube and this one sounded pretty good.  Because it contains alcohol, I would only use this in the evening, on going to bed.

1/2 cup bourbon whiskey
1/2 cup raw honey
1 tblspn brown sugar
1 lemon, juice of
1 2cm piece ginger, grated
2 drops pure peppermint essential oil
(the recipe wanted 4 hard candy peppermint lollies, crushed,  but I couldn’t get any so the peppermint and brown sugar are the substitute)

Put all in a small saucepan and gently heat - do not bring to the boil as this will spoil the quality of the raw honey
(not that the bourbon won’t!)...

Strain mixture through a fine seive and bottle it.  Take 1-2 tablespoons to relieve a cough at bedtime. 😴

It tastes rather good! 😉

  1. i just use raw honey for a cough or sore throat, don't bother with syrups, these days i barely get them, just the ocassional itchy throat which a teaspoon of honey usually puts to sleep!
    thanx for sharing
