Treasures...

I have an old auntie who is 90 years old (my mother's sister) and she only recently moved into a nursing home due to poor health.
She is a spinster so a couple of her dear close friends and my sister had the task of sorting through her things in her little unit.  Over the years, she was an avid stitcher, be it embroidery, cross-stitch, petitpoint, crochet and tatting...
~
My sister has given me two garbags full of her craftwork.  These are the only finished items I have found...
~
It would seem she liked to start projects and obviously in later years, rarely finished things.
~
She was a talented tatter and fine crocheter in her day...
~
Such intricate work...
~
I can't imagine how many hours she would have sat stitching over the years ...
~
I also received these little bowls and spoons which will be put to good use...
~
...and she had my name on these these little Wedgewood-like vases (I don't think they are originals)...
~
I love this unfinished petitpoint.  I haven't located the pattern amongst her stash but found a sister pattern in a bag but I have already found where I can get the pattern online so I have ordered it and it's coming from Canada.
:)
~
I would love to finish it...
~
All treasures and memories of dear Auntie Betty.

  1. I have such respect and awe for delicate stitchery. Just amazing patience and skill.

I love that you found the pattern to finish off the stitchery, will be lovely to hang it. What beautiful things you have to remind you of your dear Aunt. xx

  3. Treasures indeed. Just beautiful. My great aunt (much more like a grandma to me) tried to teach me to tat every summer for years. :) I always admire it (knowing how I suck at it.)

  4. That tatting is beautiful, such lovely keepsakes. My Mum used to do it and it has me wondering where her pieces ended up. Lots of nice blue collections there :)

  5. Just wonderful and they went to the right pair of hands. Alas, I can see me leaving exactly the same situation behind as I down size in older age.
