Pt 1 Grampians Grape Escape 2015...

Last weekend we headed to Halls Gap in Western Victoria for the GGE Food and Wine Festival...

The country is so dry over there, they really need good rains to break the drought...

We stopped in Horsham for lunch (yummy Thai beef salad and calamari) and to buy our groceries for the two days. Crossing over the border, we are not allowed to take fruit/vegetables into Victoria, nor bring anything back into South Australia. This to try and stop the spread of fruit fly and other plant diseases from crossing borders.

Plenty of times I have wanted to bring home lovely produce from farmers markets etc but there are heavy fines if you are caught. Not worth it!

This is the Giant Koala at Dadswells Bridge just before we turned to head up to Halls Gap...

I love the trees in country Victoria, they remind me of bush ranger country!

We arrived in Halls Gap at our accomodation - Marwood Villas - in the early afternoon. Our staff had given us a voucher for one nights accomodation for Christmas and we were lucky to get a villa for this busy weekend...

The property has 6 little villas, each with a different theme. Ours was the 'water villa'...

We toddled off to the GGE at about 3.30pm and wandered around. There were a few bands playing and lots to eat and drink...

We sat in on Matt Preston's cooking segment which was interesting...he loves a chat!

Selfie!

Snack time - this is a Twissto - deep fried soiral of potato, lightly battered! We listened to the bands until it was after 6pm then wobbled out way back to the villa (12 minutes walk).

Gus prepared garlic prawn skewers as an entree then lamb cutlets...

...streamed baby potatoes...

and his masterpiece, an Asian salad with crunchy noodles! Easy meal prep!

We lit the fire and watched TV. To orrow s the main day of the Escape so we needed an early night!

Joolz xx
