Uninterrupted sleep...

For a long time now, I have been a restless sleeper. I don't have trouble falling asleep but once that sleep is interrupted by my single toilet visit each night (usually between 3 and 4am), I can't go back to sleep.

My mind switches on and I think of things. Just things.

Back several months ago, Gus bought this contraption. He suffers from tinitus (ringing in the ears) and when he had a hearing test, they suggested it might help at night to lessen his awareness of the ringing if he softly had the radio going via this 'pillow mate' that goes under your pillow, so as not to disturb your partner (me!)...
I plugged it in to my iPhone and played my relaxation music of choice - soft Indian citar music and some gentle chanting and singing. I went off to sleep then awoke about midnight for a pee. Back to bed and reset the music going and I woke up at 6.30am to the alarm! Over six hours of uninterrupted sleep - no tossing and turning from one side to the other, no drinking water for my dry mouth every hour or so! I can't wait to try it again tonight.

Here is a link where you can get it from, I am sure there are other brands around too!
Cheers - Joolz xx

  1. Ooh sounds great, will have to look into that. The tossing & turning, drives you crazy. I look at the clock and calculate how many hours sleep I could get before the alarm goes off, then I look again & again. If only the mind would stop thinking!! Hope you have another good nights sleep. Sandra

  4. I have sleeping problems too, the type that comes with menopause :)

I often listen to the radio turned way down low and I have been known to find relaxing flute music on youtube and take my laptop to the bedroom to listen and relax. It really does help and your brain switches off especially if you tune in and just listen to the music. Helps me to go off to sleep in no time at all, and stay asleep zzzz

  5. thanks for this Joolz. I'm much the same and have tinnitus also (so my sympathies to your husband!). ENT guy suggested having the radio on softly, but just slightly off the channel to get 'white noise'. I find it really annoying and disrupts my sleep more than ever. I will have to look into this gadget. The things we go through! My husband has sleep apnoea and now has to get a (in his words) Darth Vader mask. So we are a great pair!
