Enjoying a long weekend...

Friday night - the end to a big, big week. A simple salad...
~
and some shasliks and oven baked potato slices...
~
I was given some home-grown tomatoes this week so I have been enjoying them on toast each morning. So good!
~
Kirby and Bri are home for the weekend so I decided to make some icecream for them...
~
Beat 4 egg yolks and 1/2 cup caster sugar together until pale and foamy...
~
Add in vanilla extract...
~
Whip again until really pale...
~
On the stove, heat 1.5 cups full cream milk then add in 180 grams dark 70% chocolate, stirring until chocolate is totally melted. Allow to cool. Then stir in 1.25 cups full cream.
~
Slowly add the chocolate mixture to the egg mixture and beat for a minute or two. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours...
~
After 15 minutes of churning in the icecream bowl, this is the result - beautiful creamy chocolate icecream.
~
Into the freezer to harden up a little... I had one small scoop - it's not for weight watchers!
~
The girls always love my cookies so I made a batch of these.
I always add a little more flour, though.
~
Brianna was going to her friend Rob's 18th so I baked him a giant choc chip cookie - see how big it is compared to a normal sized one? Lol!
~
Now, seriously - do yourself a favour and make this Barbecue Sauce. We used it as a marinade for our steaks - it was so goood!

BARBECUE SAUCE
.
1/2 cup tomato sauce (ketchup)
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon American mustard
.
Put all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to the boil. Store in a jar and use on any barbecued meat.
~
We marinated the rump steak for about 2 hours...
~
Then it went onto the hot barbecue grill... absolutely delicious!
~
Sunday aftern0on, we girls went to see The Vow - it was a nice chick flick and quite a tear jerker!
~
Sunday night, Gus had a practice for a 'Wok Off' that he will be competing in soon. He made a Chicken & Basil stir-dry which we all enjoyed. I think he will win easy! ;)
~
This morning, we had a little visitor - my great-nephew Brax! Isn't he sweet?
~
He has big blue eyes and a chubby grin - so cute!
~
Dear sweet baby, sound asleep...
~
Have a look at this! She arrived home Saturday morning and by Monday afternoon, her room is reduced to this!!!!!! Oh, dear!
~
Such a beautiful autumn day here, we decided to lunch out under the pergola. Not a breath of wind - usually it is too cold to sit out because of the southerly breeze...

~
Lamb loin chops with Tuscan seasoning...

  3. Oh my goodness, so much yumminess! Adorable little one. Doesn't it seem like yours were that size only a little while ago? I know you are glad to have them home.

  4. Girl, this post made me salivate, it is a wonder I am not wiping saliva off my keyboard. The tomatoes on toast look yummiest because we are just getting rid of winter and a fresh garden tomato is worth it's weight in gold right now. The hot house variety just doesn't cut it. That Brax is a little pumpkin and a cutie alright. They are fun at that age. Those cookies....oh my.....now I want some!!
