Market Goodies and healthy Chow Mein...

I had to zip into town early this morning (showered, makeup & hair done) and our local monthly Farmer's Market was happening. I picked up some Bread & Butter Cucumbers, Tomato Relish, Tomato Sauce, a sweet little ginger bread guy and a cake of soap. I usually miss this market because Saturday mornings I usually schlepp around and don't leave the house.

I made Annette Sym's ChowSym for dinner last night. The recipe for it is here (download and print).
Fry off the mince, onions, garlic & ginger...
~
Add in beans, carrot, peas and celery...
~
Wow, that is a whole lot of cabbage - 6 cups!
~
Add in the cabbage, curry powder, water and sauces and stock powder. Cover and let is simmer away for 30-40 minutes until the cabbage is cooked, stirring it over occasionally. I halved the amount of Singapore Noodles when I added them.
~
A delicious, low fat, one-pot meal - packed with vegetables.
~
I made a batch of Anzac Biscuits on Thursday and thankfully gave most of them away!
~
They can be a little hard to resist!

This weekend I intend to get some more walking in - I am feeling very sore after just that small workout on Thursday so I need to keep limber. We have an exercise ball so I may even try the wall squat again to see if I can at least go a bit longer. That is our aim - to improve all times and to lose some centimeters from our bodies.
~
I have some seedlings that need planting out and a bit of tidying up outdoors as I am hosting my sister's 60th Birthday lunch on Wednesday.
~
My car needs cleaning and those weeds in the garden are, funnily enough, still there! so they need to come out.
~
What are you getting up to on this weekend?

  3. Hi Joolz, love the finds from the farmer's market. The gingerbread man is so cute and that goats milk soap is bound to smell great. I have a friend who has goats and makes all kinds of good smelling soaps. I have bought about 5 bars and given a few as gifts and people love them. Your recipe looks yummy, gotta try it. Have a great weekend.

  5. Oh I wish I could eat cabbage but it plays havoc with me...Looks like a great recipe Joolz.

I am cutting down my meat intake from now on. I have lost the taste for it. Vegetarian meals and fish for me and maybe a little chicken (breast of course).

I went for a walk this morning, it is lovely and peaceful out there and good for collecting my thoughts. I am off to Adelaide this week for my appointment at the breast clinic on Thursday and as I am getting a little wound up, a good walk was in order!

    Some lovely finds there Joolz.

I must make some Anzac bikkies, haven't done that in ages...
