A change coming...

(My breakfast this morning - 1/2 cup plain instant oats made into porridge with 1 cup Tone skim milk, tablespoon of LSA (ground linseed, sunflowers seeds & almonds), a banana and tablespoon of honey).

Maybe it is the 'spring' type weather that we are having this week and the fact that I am going on holidays soon, but I feel the need to 'pull my finger out' and start eating healthier and lose some weight. I have so much processed 'junk' in my pantry, it is not funny - and it is costing me a fortune!

A woman in our town is about to call an 'expression of interest' meeting to set up a SA Weight Watchers group. I am in! The group would meet to weigh in, talk about weight loss, recipes, healthy eating. I would like to get a walking group started too. I'm excited!

  1. I think you'll like the new WW program. I've been a WW member periodically through the years, and their new Points Plus system is the easiest yet for me. I've been backsliding lately, but I've been working myself up to going back. I think I just may join you.

I can't stand thinking about walking when we are consistently over 100 degrees F. But the notion that autumn is on its way has me wanting to break in the walking shoes too.

  2. Oh, I have so many good intentions when it comes to dieting and eating healthy. Then along comes some really, really good dessert.... *sigh*

  3. Good luck Joolz with your weight loss, healthy eating and exercise...If you are really serious about losing weight, get the Michelle Bridges crunch time and crunch time cookbook( All in one book available at Big W). She explains the weight yo yo pattern very well in straight terms that everyone can understand, and she gets into your head. Basically you need to burn more calories than you eat. Some of her recipes are okay too.

Re the garden: You might be able to grow a garden in pots Joolz. I am doing that too with lettuces. My garden beds are set up to be low maintenance, I barely spend time out there. Wicking beds mean that they stay damp for up to a week, and the shade cloth in Summer helps...Down your way you could probably stretch the time further. It was just an idea and better for your health. I know people dont have the time for these things when they work...I have trouble growing tomatoes, in a garden or a pot. I think I water them too much!

We have limited internet connection at the moment, so if I miss commenting it is probably due to that. Modem died this morning and would have another towards the end of the week. I hope we can cope lol!

  4. would love to come walking with you Joolz....might take me a while to get there though! My treadmill has been in use during the colder weather and now the sun is out I can take Rose and walk outside again.....I wasn't eating well/properly and hate food shopping and since there is only me to think about I have given Lite n' Easy a try...meals are (surprisingly) good and I don't have to think about what to cook....too easy!! Loving it so far....and if I lose some weight that will be a bonus..but the convenience is the part I love the most!

  5. All of this sounds like the way to go. Sometimes we need to shake it up a bit.

  6. I'm feeling the same with the weather we have been having and finding it feels good to be eating better. I do need to do some walking though!

  7. All I can focus on are the bananas. BANANAS! What a luxury :) Your brekkie sounds yummy. Good luck with getting fitter and healthier! Spring gives you that extra boost I reckon. I grow lots of vegies in pots.
