Rat bait...

... and no, I haven't had to resort to poisoning those mice. A friend of mine, on facebook was talking about rat bait... I had to ask! This is what she calls rat bait - I really have no idea why? In my house, we call them Savoury Toasties.
~In a bowl, mix grated cheese, tomato or barbecue sauce (or your favourite relish), 2 eggs, bacon or bacon pieces or sliced ham and a chopped onion. Honestly, you could add pineapple (I did), capsicum, corn, asparagus - anything!
Spread it on slices of bread, then bake in the oven 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbling.
~
Golden goodness...
~
Cut into triangles or fingers and serve - with hearty soup for an 'after the game' dinner or 'before the footy starts' on Saturday night.

  4. Mum used to make something similar called Mouse Traps, basically vegemite spread on bread, with grated cheese sprinkled on, they then get cooked in the oven till the bread goes crunchy (they last quite a while in a sealed container) and then handed out as snacks to keep the kids quiet, have to be eaten outside though or the crumbs get everywhere. A good use for stale bread.

  6. Hi Joolz,
just popped over to say hi and catch up with your posts - thank you for dropping by my blog today and yes I cannot believe how much you are having to pay for bananas - makes me appreciate mine even more now. Well I saw your title and had to smile. I have just come home from town - I was meant to buy some real rat bait for the real rats that are thinking of coming into our roof for the winter. I forgot! Maybe I could borrow your cat - actually we have a cat - she catches mice too but rarely rats. And there at the bottom of you blog is a cute kitty reminding me that it is only 265 days to Christmas and it's not even Easter. This year is flying by!
    Have a great week!
