New Years Day 1-1-11...

So, as has become tradition, we head to the beach on New Years Day - weather permitting. The extreme heat expected for NY Eve never really eventuated - I think it got to 36C but a cool breeze blew in to bring the temp down to 24C by 5pm. New Years Day was about 24C also, so perfect beach weather.

No. 2 Rocks

The Southern Ocean was a beautiful turquoise blue...

We set up camp with friends - lots of shade so we didn't get frizzled!
~
Barbeque lunch with salads...
~
Just chillin'...

~
A starfish in a rock pool... we see these every year - orange, purple, pink and blue...
~
Another family were exploring the rock pools...
~
Bri and Michael braved it for a quick swim...
~
Sand and blue skies...
~
Time to pack up Ruby and head for home...
~
~
Bri was the designated driver... she had a ball powering through the dunes...
~
On the way back, we turned off the track to try some sand boarding - this hill we were on was huge. Aren't we lucky to have dunes like this in our back yard?
~
Lake Bonney and wind mills in the distance.
~
~
Michael gives the sand board a go but being late in the day, the sand was too cold for any speed and we didn't really have the right wax for the board. Will definitely be returning to try again soon!

~
Uh oh!
~
Time for home, it's past 8pm.
~
A few sunset pics to finish off with...

Another great day at our favourite beach spot. A very good start to the New Year!

  2. What a great day we have a great beach and sand dunes near us too but it was packed with 4wd this weekend. They go for the whole weekend as it just across the water from the Newcastle fireworks on NYE. They said at last count there were 4,000 4wd went onto the beach NYE (they know because you have to get a permit to go on there.......it used to be free).

  5. What fun Joolz!

Don't have white sand hills or pristine beaches here. Red sand and sludge would best describe it. We do go 4 W Driving through our sand hills sometimes. It did reach 45C on Friday but it has cooled down a bit now, still 34C today and all week will be similar.

    Have a great day,

  10. Oh heck, I'm jealous now! If we ever get more than 2 days running at 24 deg (in 6 months time of course) they start analysing it on the telly, trying to figure out how much longer the polar ice cap can survive!
