New Year purge...

(before)
I don't know why but New Year always gets me in the mood for chucking stuff out and tidying those spaces that get stuffed full of crap during the year... yesterday I tackled my lovely walk-in linen press - I got rid of a large black garbag full of paraphernalia (read crap!) and a laundry basket stacked full of empty cardboard boxes of varying sizes (I tend to collect/keep boxes in case they can be used for something else)... I also found some mouse droppings (uh, oh!) and many dead spiders and millipedes in there so the whole room got a good spraying of Mortein!

Doesn't that look better? The shelves are still stuffed full but it is a storage area so that's what the room is for. Hey, do you like all my mis-matched bath towels? I tend to buy cream, pale pink or sage green ones (they don't leave dark fluff on my cream bathroom tiles like bottle green or burgundy ones) but they are in varying degrees of thread-bareness. I've never had all nice new towels at the same time. You?

Then I tackled my side of our walk-in robe... this is the pile of clothes that got carted off to St. Vinnies. I also purged about 10 pairs of shoes and boots. Bugger, I'll have to get new boots for winter! :)

This is MY side of the space - see - I HAVE NO CLOTHES!
That bottom shelf is all my winter clothes and even they are in danger of being ousted when winter comes. Stay tuned!

Today, being a holiday Monday for NY, I will continue to potter - Kirby heads back to Adelaide so her room needs a once over and there's always something to do in the laundry and the kitchen floor needs a good mopping. My next big project is my built-in cupboards in the study - but I need the recycling bin to be emptied this week before I can really start that project!

I have Linen Press envy! Yours is wonderful! I went from 6 double doors of Linen space to Two at this space storage issued house!

  2. You've been oh so much more productive than I! I love your linen closet. The one thing I regret about the new house is that it is lacking in linen storage. I buy all white towels, and they are all terribly dingy at the moment. I've been researching how best to get the gray out. If it works, great. If it doesn't, then I might just have all new towels all at one time for the first time. :)

  3. Your linen press is great. Mine is just a single cupboard bought from Bunnings and a blanket box.

I am doing the same thing, feeling the fresh start of the year and the need to clear the decks a little.

    Have fun

  5. Yes, I'm loving your linen press too. I clean out almost monthly - I think I have issues. No, I've never had all new towels at the same time. It was only about a year ago I finally got rid of some 16 year old towels - they were the ones we used. Guests got the newer ones.
Now you'll have the fun of replacing clothes, shoes, boots etc etc

    Cheers,

  6. I have doing the same thing....it seems like a good time to get rid of old stuff and have a general tidy-up. My walk in robe was fast becoming a stand-at-the-door-and-throw-it-in robe....so now I can actually get in there again...and I don't even have to share it with anyone! Towels....they are my favourite things....I have loads of them but have two favourites that I 'rotate'..LOL....nice big Sheridan ones...yum! both in pale grey - no dark stuff on the tiles here either! Today it's the turn of the sewing room for a make-over.....when I get there...no hurry!
