More de-cluttering achieved today...

(before)
This cupboard has been jam packed full of stuff since we built the house and moved in 6.5 years ago...

(after)
Ta Dah! I am really pleased with my efforts - there was quite a bit of crap in there which I have transferred to some stacker boxes (school bits and pieces from both girls - I have a large yellow envelope for each year they were at school).
~
This... I think... is a Redback spider (I didn't get close, hence the blurry zoomed in picture and I can't quite see any red on its back but....its the right shape!)!!! It was living quite comfortably in the cupboard and got quite aggressive when I disturbed it. It had built a web in a scrapbook of Kirby's baby/birthday cards. What do you do with 20 years (and 17 years respectively) of birthday cards for your children - I have each and every one of them!! The poor widdle 'pider met its maker when I sprayed it with bug spray then vacuumed it up! Hasta lavista, baby! Ha, ha!
~
Another picture for the "shame file" - a crunchy dead cricket, entangled in spider webs! Aaargh!
~
Its been a very long day and it took a lot of time to pull everything out, evaluate its future existence then put it all back in again...
~
Oh, the nostalgia! I found a container full of old cassette tapes - my kids don't even know what these are!!! Look - ABBA, ONJ!, Kenny & Dolly - good times! :)

The other side of the built in - this is the library side (I do not have a book shelf in my home!).
~
(after)
That's much better - everything is easy to see and reachable. I wonder how long it will stay this way???

Enjoying a glass of red now, with my feet up -
Cheers - Joolz

  1. You have been very busy there Joolz, everything is now looking very spic and span...

I like to do this regularly and boy does it feel good to be ruthless! (It needs doing about now)

  2. You enjoy your red - you've well earned it! I like looking at other people's clutter and was just thinking how i'd like to have been there on turning out day UNTIL I saw that spider. I'm not usually bothered about spiders but here in England (my bit anyway) we don't get angry looking geezers like THAT! If it's what you thought, is it venomous?

  3. Well done!! Very well done!
Is that a Peter Rabbit book? Love BP!

  4. Angie - Yes, RB's are venomous and you need to get first aid immediately if you are to survive a bite. I've added a link about them now.

Kylie - Yes, it's a Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit Treasury. I only bought it last year from a book club - I am starting a story library for my future grand-children (probably a very, very long way off) - full of lovely old tales and nursery rhymes.

  5. well done Joolz! I have been in the cleaning out mode as well...and unpacking some boxes that I haven't touched since I moved in.....junk.....and more of it...but then there are things I think I might need "one day".....anyhow I have repacked stuff and it's all neat now...and I have decided since I finished the sewing room tidy up today that I DO NO need any more fabric, books or anything else in the sewing /quilting line ....for a very long time....or at least until I finish a few projects and use up some fabric. Off to the Patchwork Apple tomorrow with a friend..I won't be buying anything...just looking...trust me....LOL

  7. Great job. I have been cleaning out clutter too (trying anyway). What a job. I have also kept all of my 2 daughter's cards since they were born. I will hand the box to them to keep one day. I can't bear to part with any cards. Have fun.

  8. Isn't it a great feeling to have a good clean out! Well done.
Your new year's getaway looked like a lovely quiet private spot...perfect!

  9. I love my stash of "oldies music". I might be tempted to hide it from friends, but my 11 year old loves most of it. Nothing really beats Abba, Barbara S, and after seeing a recent Oprah show with Dolly Parton, well, what can I say. My family had to put up with me listening Islands in The Stream and The Gambler on Youtube, for a day or so. Ssshh, don't tell anyone, it'll be our little secret.

    Cheers,
    Lisa x
