(I live in the blue bit at the bottom of South Australia - that's why we are freezing our butts off at the moment! Lol!)

Our seasons are different in the Southern Hemisphere -
~
For Australia -
Winter - June 1 to August 31
Spring - September 1 to November 30
Summer - December 1 to February 28
Autumn - March 1 to May 31
~
Australia has many, varied temperatures in different parts of the country.

This is the cut of meat we in Australia call a Scotch Fillet.

In the US you may call it a Rib Eye steak or eye fillet steak.

  1. This was really interesting for me Joolz. I read alot of Australian blogs and the maps and seasonal dates helped clarify a few things for me :)

One day I look forward to visiting your beautiful country.

    Have a wonderful week

  2. It is very interesting to see where you live. :) Isn't the Internet wonderful allowing us to get to know each other in such far away places. That steak sure looks good, too!

    Best,

  3. Heck! I'd have to re-learn all I thought I knew if I were to live in /australia! The cut of meat you pictured LOOKS like what we would call shin beef but I'm sure it isn't. Shin wants long slow cooking and is the best flavour ever for stews.

I knew your seasons were all cock-eyed to ours but somehow we still think it's hot in Oz! Until my sis went to Sydney for the Rugby World Cup that is and it rained most of the time. She had to go buy some woollies because she didn't take any. Sorry but you've got a bit more butt freezing to do yet haven't you?

  4. It is funny how things are named differently in other parts of the world. Sometimes I forget that when I blog about it:0)

  5. Hi Joolz
Interesting post & fuel for thought because as you know I live in Queensland. In my local Woolworths/local butcher etc.. it is labeled eye fillet but most resturants here will have it on their menus as rib eye. It is not commonly called Scotch fillet.
    Have a great day

  9. Good one Joolz, I see it has been really cold down your way recently. I always call that cut of beef, rib-eye or Scotch fillet.
