Comfort food...

What is your favourite comfort food?

I am a savoury person so I like things like dips, cheeses, anti-pasto etc., cheddar cheese and red onion on Jatz biscuits are my comfort food or peanut butter and honey on fresh white bread, golden syrup on crumpets, chili concarne nachos, home-made minestrone soup, apricot chicken and vegies, tuna & corn mornay on toast, chow mein on toast (for breakfast this morning), condensed milk on a spoon, vegemite on salada biscuits, cheese and gherkin on Jatz.
No chocolate in this list, is there? I like chocolate but it just doesn't do it for me like say, cheese. I can make a batch of choc muffins or brownies and not touch a bite but if you open a tub of dip, I'm there! I also like to eat breakfast cereal (Just Right, Special K and Cornflakes) just before I go to bed as supper. With orange juice on it, not milk. Meh, why not!

Cheers - Joolz

  1. Cheetos, rice pudding, almost any kind of soup, pot pies, ice cream, tortilla chips and salsa, tortilla chips and queso, homemade bread with butter and fig preserves, chili and tamales, oatmeal cooked with raisins and buttered toast on the side. Hmmm, nary a fresh fruit made the list. :)

I love this post, I may 'borrow' your idea.

  2. I was a huge savoury fan too before I had bub #2... Now I have the sweetest tooth ever not for chocolate though, for home baked treats like cakes and slices and cream filled biscuits, YUMMO... I have some dried fruit and bran soaking as I write this for a cake (sounds horrible I know but truely, it is delicious!!!) and not to leave DH out I've just put a batch of cheesy might scrolls in the oven for him, he's a savoury fan too...

  5. Oooh, yeah I forgot Mac n Cheese! I cheat and use Kraft Macaroni Cheese Deluxe, add bacon and onion and a dash of worcestershire sauce to the cheese sauce. That is usually what we girls have when the man of the house is away.

  6. I wish I could express myself or clarify my thoughts like you do.

I think you are right, if a dip comes out I'm there too. I found a recipe similar to what I enjoyed years ago, an anchovy dip. Will have to remember to try that one.

Chow mein on toast I enjoy a lot for lunch. A friend taught me to eat saladas with vegemite and peanut butter over each other, I am not a peanut butter person but love that.

Fruit soaking is definitely a nice smell.

    Not keen on Jatz.

    Feta, I love that.

I hope you go better tomorrow than I did when ds19 left for the army I think I cried for 6mths but then we weren't allowed any contact at first & I didn't get to see him for 6mths.(talk about being thrown in at the deep end)Hope tomorrow goes okay I will be thinking of you.

  8. Wow Caroline.

When my second son turned 18 this week, I was thinking that my eldest was already away at that age, and he spent his 18th with his girlfriend's family. I am getting a bit of a repreive this time.

Joolz I am glad it went well.

I'd say Caroline and I having our eldest as sons, and significant males and all that, I just had tears all down my face, maybe because I don't know Canberra that well it added to the feeling of dumping him.
